a night at the monastery

Before setting off for Yuksom and the trek, we spent our last night in Gangtok in a monastery. The locals call it Thamang Gompha, which apparently refers to a particular sect.

We slept in the main prayer room. The insides of the prayer room... photos of us preparing for the night...

The dogs at the temple apparently shifts. The white dog guards the temple at night; it followed us everywhere we went when we were trying to settle down for the night.

Pictures of the young monks doing their daily chores... the temple is apparently used for the instruction of young monks.

As can be seen we are very friendly with the dogs. Or rather the dogs were very friendly.

The head abbot invited us for breakfast in his private quarters. His elder student monk served us. He did not speak any English.

Early morning prayers... by the young monks.

A photo with the head abbot, before setting off for the mountains.
